3 Big Takeaways I Learned From John Reese

by Andy

I’ve learned a lot from being John Reese’s affiliate manager over the years, but there are 3 major revelations that have changed my life, and I’m confident they will have a large impact on you, too…

1. Transparency
2. Give Good Value Up Front
3. Overdeliver

NOTE: the following applies to how you communicate with your prospects, customers, affiliates, and everyone else in life!

Takeaway #1: Transparency

Do you have something to hide?

That’s something you should always be asking yourself when you are dealing with your prospects, customers, affiliates, family, or whoever.

In business, the first obstacle you must overcome in order to gain a new customer is that person’s TRUST. And the best way to earn that person’s trust is complete TRANSPARENCY.

This simply means that you should not only have your prospect/customer’s best interest at heart at all times, but you must also adequately express that to them, and more importantly, be willing to reveal some of your inner most feelings about WHY you are doing certain things…

Before sending out emails, setting up web pages, creating offers, etc… you need make sure you know what your sincere intentions are that you want to accomplish, and then go the extra mile to EXPRESS those intentions to those people.

A perfect example is the fact that prospects just need to know a reason WHY a specific offer is being made… WHY a price has been discounted 20-50% or more… or WHY you have chosen to share your knowledge with them (… “if he’s making so much $ doing this, then why would he share it with the world”… you know what I’m talking about).

Takeaway #2: Give Good Value Up Front

What kind of value are you giving on the front end of your marketing funnel?

I remember when I met John at an event in Sep ’02, and how he sat at the front of the room for HOURS sharing his marketing wisdom with 10-20 people, including myself, hanging on his every word.

Keep in mind that he wasn’t considered a “guru”, yet, by any means, and he wasn’t taking payment for sharing his knowledge.

He continued doing the same thing for quite some time on teleseminars, and such, and that inspired me to do the same exact thing when I’d meet people at seminars who asked me for advice on affiliate management type stuff.

In fact, when I attend seminars, speak to people over the phone, and so forth, I always focus my attention on what THEY need, and sincerely do my best to guide them in the right direction, and by doing so, good things come back to me.

It all comes down to being sincerely interested in helping other people, and just taking the time to LISTEN, making solid recommendations, and expecting nothing in return.

Takeaway #3: Over-Deliver

Once you have someone who has put their trust in you because of your honesty (transparency) and willingness to give, it’s now time to make sure they LOVE the value that you bring to the table.

You will never run out of customers or happy affiliate/JV partners if you are always going the extra mile for them.

For example, if you promise a bonus for buying your product, give them an unannounced, surprise bonus in the welcome email they receive from you

If you pay affiliates a certain commission % on a particular product, go ahead and give a surprise bonus once they reach a certain milestone.

If you promise 1 interview in your monthly continuity program or membership site, give them access to extra ones throughout the month.

Always be looking for ways to give, give, and give some more in any situation you’re in, whether that’s business or in life.

Again, these are 3 big takeaways I learned from working as John Reese’s affiliate manager for 5+ years, but now YOU can instantly improve your business, specifically your affiliate program, by taking the time to open up to your potential affiliates with honesty and integrity, being willing to give freely of your knowledge, and by going the extra mile to provide extra incentives along the way.

Hey Everybody!
I just met Andy through his webinar and invite to his new class.
I want to ask all of you, How many times have you paid for a course and actually received a phone call from the guru…thanking you for enrolling?!
I have not been asked by Andy to do this. Hey…I barely know the guy.
I can tell you I am impressed and looking forward to getting to know him even better.
Yours in Service,
Mark

Excellent post, Andy! Those are some important points.

Transparency is basically giving them a reason why you’re doing something, or why something is the way that it is. And that’s always powerful.

Nobody knows what a marketer is thinking, until the marketer says it. Better to say it, say it well, and say it loud.

Thanks Andy!

Glad you liked it, Frederico. I’ll be adding more content, soon, and I promise to start responding to comments in more of a timely fashion, as well. ;-)
