UPDATE (8/29/09): Check out this video of Tony Robbins & John Reese discussing how John literally dodged a hurricane the same day he was able to produce his “Million Dollar Day”.
As you know, I’ve worked for John Reese for the past several years, and one of the things that really put him on the map as an Internet marketing expert was his “Million Dollar Day”, which occurred 5 years ago today.
I remember that day very well, because that was the launch of “Traffic Secrets”, which was the culmination of his earlier “Triple Your Profit Workshop” in March ’04.
That workshop was a great experience for me, because working at that workshop for John led to my becoming his affiliate manager, and one of the perks of helping him with that event was that I got access to the same info that others spent around $5K for.
Anyway, enough about me…
Check out his latest blog post for his explanation of not only what made that day so special, but what the secret ingredients are to a successful product launch.
For those of you looking to generate an army of affiliates/JV partners for your own products, pay special attention to the final few paragraphs of that post. Especially this…
“If you want to leverage other people’s marketing assets like I mentioned, then you need to ‘play well with others’ in your market. Sell other people’s stuff first, then try and build a relationship to get them to reciprocate to promote your products.” – John Reese
Sound familiar.
Like I’ve mentioned elsewhere in this blog, John taught me that one of the most important things you can do if you’re looking to attract new affiliates or JV partners is to build a relationship with them, first… and one of the best ways you can do that is by doing the opposite of what most people do… actually promote your potential JV partner’s products, first.
You can either do it in a stealth manner by simply registering for their affiliate program and getting to work, or better yet… you can contact them to introduce yourself, letting them know how much you would like to promote their products, and that you’d love to share some ideas that have worked well for you when promoting your products.
By doing this in a laid back manner, it shows that you have a sincere interest in helping out your new friend, and once you’ve talked the talk by making at least a few sales for them, you stand a much greater chance of gaining a new affiliate/JV partner.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that this person is obligated in any way to reciprocate by promoting your products, but at a bare minimum, by approaching them from an angle of sincerity and a willingness to help them sell their products, you will have gained a friend who will most likely take a serious look at anything you present them with in the future.
